ArcBest Bringing New Plant, Hundreds of Jobs to Fort Smith

FORT SMITH -- ArcBest Corporation is working with the city of Fort Smith and the state, sinking close to $30 million into a project that will bring almost one thousand new jobs to Fort Smith.

According to a press release Friday, the transportation and logistics company will build a new facility and add room for expansion at their existing location, creating 975 new jobs in Fort Smith through 2021.

ArcBest is under contract to buy 40 acres of land at Chaffee Crossing to build a new corporate headquarters. Currently, the company houses their Fort Smith general office on Old Greenwood Road.

The company plans to relocate corporate and administrative personnel to the newly building while ABF Freight System Inc., the company’s flagship subsidiary will stay at the existing facility

ArcBest has operated out of Fort Smith for 90 years, according to mayor Sandy Sanders who, in a statement called the announcement, "Great news for the company, Fort Smith and the many people who will gain jobs as a result of this continued growth.”

Groundbreaking on the construction project is slated for this fall.
