UPDATE (8/21/14 3:20 p.m.) - Van Buren police have released more information regarding Thursday morning's chase.

Officers say they were responding to a call of a theft in progress in the 2100 block of Taft Street around 8:30 a.m.  According to police, Dustin Bill Jones, 34, was trying to steal a boat from the back yard of a home.  When officers arrived they say Jones was driving away in a black Ford F-150, and they tried to stop him.

A car chase began, and investigators say Jones got out of the truck in the area of 9th and Jefferson near the Van Buren Municipal Complex and ran on foot.  The officers chased after Jones but lost sight of him.

Van Buren police and Crawford County sheriff's deputies set up a perimeter around the area, and found Jones hiding under a house on Main Street.  Initially, police say Jones refused to come out.  After a brief negotiation he surrendered and was arrested.

Jones faces charges of fleeing in a vehicle, reckless driving, theft of property, driving on a suspended license, contempt of court and an outstanding warrant out of Sebastian County.  He is being held in the Crawford County Detention Center without bond.
