FAA Grants $4.9 Million to Fort Smith Regional Airport

FORT SMITH, AR -- The Federal Aviation Administration is investing millions of dollars into the Fort Smith Regional Airport. Arkansas' U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman made the announcement Monday morning.

"This funding will allow the airport to make much-needed infrastructure upgrades so they can meet FAA safety standards and continue to support the region's growing business and transportation needs," Sen. Pryor said in a press release.

The FAA's $4.9 million grant will allow the Fort Smith Regional Airport to shift a taxiway and complete the rest of its recent construction project.

"This is exciting news for my hometown of Fort Smith. The investment will help meet the demands placed on the Fort Smith airport and support growth and commerce in the region," Sen. Boozman said in the presser. "It's important that we continue to seek improvements to our transportation system so area businesses and industries can remain competitive in this global economy."

The airport also received a grant for renovations in 2013. CLICK HERE to read more.
