Hero's Parents Humbled by Statue of Their Son

HOT SPRINGS, AR - Monday night, the Veterans Memorial Committee of Garland County voted to approve raising money for a statue to honor Adam Brown.

Brown was a Navy Seal, killed in action in 2010 in Afghanistan.

The committee is working to raise $50,000 to have the statue finished and delivered to Arkansas.

Florida artist Greg Marra is already working to complete the work.

Brown's mother, Janice said, "It's a great honor for Adam. It's very humbling. It's something I hope our community will cherish."

During the sculpting process, the Brown's will have the final say, working closely with Marra.

Janice said, "He (Marra) said he wants us to be pleased with it, and when we are pleased with it he knows he is done."

"We are still working with him on the likeness of Adam, but we are excited about it," said Brown's father Larry.

These parents have higher hopes for this statue, that every man and woman who gave all will be remembered.

Janice said, "Years from now, people won't remember who Adam was, but I hope his statue will help people remember the veterans themselves and that it will represent all of them and not just one."

A family humbled and honored, but Larry knows it's not going to be easy seeing the sculpture.

"Of course it's going to be bittersweet to have a statue in honor of your son."
