IMAGES: Five Homes Destroyed In SE Arkansas Tornado

CHICOT COUNTY, AR -- The National Weather Service confirms a storm that destroyed homes in southeast Arkansas was a tornado.

Two people were hurt when wind blew over a couple tractor trailers in Chicot County, but their injuries are not life threatening.

However, the storm spared no mercy on the homes in southeast Arkansas destroying five and damaging ten others.

In 78 years, Harris Mabray has never seen a tornado, but on Saturday that changed.

"I saw part of that building when it left. I didn't know where it went," he said.

His backyard looks like a junkyard with doors, insulation and other debris scattered everywhere.

According to the National Weather Service, the EF-1 tornado touched down in a small town called Halley, just a couple miles from Mabray's house.

Mike Morgan with Chicot County Emergency Management lives right down the street from where the tornado hit.

"At that time, I looked out and grabbed my family and we ran outside and got in the storm cellar. About two minutes later, you could feel the pressure in the your ears popping and I could tell we had a tornado above us," he said.

Morgan says it could take a month to clean it all up, but he's getting plenty of support.

"It's the holiday season and in Arkansas it always comes to your neighbors helping and I appreciate everybody coming out and helping south Arkansas," Morgan said.

At the height of the storm, hundreds of homes were in the dark, but Entergy has since restored power to most everyone in the area.
