Lawyers for Same-Sex Couples Against Hold that Challenges Ban

LITTLE ROCK, AR – Any challenges against Arkansas’ ban against same-sex marriage are being put on hold until the U.S. Supreme Court hears similar challenges in Utah. The plaintiffs are against the delay.

On Wednesday, attorneys for same-sex couples challenging the ban said that the case in Utah should not stop things from moving forward in Arkansas. Because of the stay of the Arkansas ban on same-sex marriage case, couples affected said they are suffering hardships.

Attorney General’s Office lawyers said that is what happened in Utah could happen in Arkansas—a judge’s ruling to strike down the ban on same-sex marriage is now being appealed in the Supreme Court. Lawyers said by waiting on the Supreme Court, they will decide in a way that suits all state.
