Update: Jermain Taylor Pleads Not Guilty in Shooting

LITTLE ROCK, AR - (Update) Professional middleweight boxer Jermain Taylor has pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated assault and domestic battery in the shooting of his cousin at Taylor's home in north Pulaski County Tuesday night. Taylor, 36, walked out of the Puklaski County Jail this afternoon, after posting $25,000 bond.

The judge also issued a no contact order between Taylor and his cousin in the case.

Taylor's arrest report states that there was a disturbance at his home that "resulted in his cousin being shot multiple times."

His cousin is identified as Tyrone Hinton, 41, of Jacksonville. Hinton is reported to be hospitalized in intensive care.

Taylor spent the night in the Pulaski County Jail awaiting this morning's arraignment in Pulaski County District Court, which he attended via video from behind bars.

Taylor was a 2000 Olympic bronze medalist and was middleweight champion from 2005 to 2007. His record is 32-4-1, 20 KOs.

Taylor is set to step back into the ring on Oct. 8 against middleweight titlist Sam Soliman in a televised match on ESPN.

In court this morning, the judge said he would allow Taylor to leave the state for training in Miami but he must check in with his bail bondsman on a weekly basis. The judge also cleared Taylor for an Oct. 6-8 trip to Connecticut for the fight.

ESPN has issued the following statement about its planned televised match after learning of Taylor's arrest:
“ESPN had committed to carry the fight and was working towards a contractual agreement. We are now reviewing the situation and will make a decision once more details emerge.”

Here is the original story we posted about Taylor's arrest:

According to Pulaski County deputies, Arkansas boxer Jermain Taylor has been placed under arrest for aggravated assault and first-degree battery.

Investigators are trying to piece together what led to a shooting that sent one person and a possible intruder to the hospital.

Taylor's home is few hundred yards through that gate and that's where the sheriffs office says they received an "intruder call" around 6:00 p.m. saying someone had been shot.

The person who was shot was found injured at a Dollar General just a few blocks away and taken to the hospital.

When asked if Taylor was hurt, authorities say medical has not been there to treat him.

Authorities have released very few details about the alleged suspect or suspects they're saying there could be more than one.

Deputies have manned the entrance all evening and are only allowing investigators and attorneys through, some family members have driven up but no one else is allowed inside the gates.
