Veterans for Ross, led by former commander of the Arkansas National Guard’s 39th Brigade Combat Team Col. Mike Ross, endorsed the Democratic nominee today citing his strong, proven record fighting for veterans.
The two are not related, according to a news release from the Ross campaign.
The gubernatorial candidate Mike Ross also unveiled a six-part plan he says will strengthen support and resources for veterans and their families in Arkansas.
“I first met Mike when he came to Iraq as our Congressman to show his appreciation and pledge his support for our troops when I was Deputy Commander of Arkansas’s 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, and we've been friends ever since,” said Col. Mike Ross. “Arkansas veterans deserve bold leadership and substantive changes that will improve the quality of life for them, their families and their communities across this state. I have known Mike for years, and he doesn't just talk the talk – he walks the walk. When veterans needed someone on their side, Mike was always there and that’s why so many veterans across Arkansas are supporting Mike Ross for governor.”
Ross said he was honored to accept the endorsement of Veterans for Ross and of Col. Mike Ross, calling him a true American hero.
“I am incredibly humbled and honored to accept the endorsement from someone who I have long admired and who is a tireless advocate for veterans in Arkansas,” said Mike Ross. “Col. Mike Ross is a true American hero, and I am eternally grateful for his service to our country, along with the service of the more than 250,000 veterans in Arkansas and their families. These folks represent the very reason why America continues to be the freest, greatest and most prosperous nation in the history of the world and we owe them our thanks and strongest possible support.”

Asa Hutchinson, Ross' Republican opponent has issued this response to the Democrat's announcement:
"Support for veterans is an issue that Mike Ross and I agree upon. I previously announced my plan to support Arkansas veterans including looking for ways to exempt our veterans from the state income tax and by eliminating the residency requirement for instate tuition for our returning veterans. As Governor I will continue to work with the Veteran's Coalition to expand the presence of veteran treatment courts and to increase employment opportunities for our returning service men and women," said Hutchinson. "I understand and recognize the importance of our veterans and the critical role they have in the future of our state. This is why I laid out my plan weeks ago to provide support for Arkansans who sacrificed their all for our freedoms."
