Wheels Turning on Arkansas Biking Plan

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The State of Arkansas is keeping cyclists in mind as it looks to update a nearly two decade old plan. The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) is preparing a series of statewide meetings. The first one is April 1 in Little Rock. This winter the AHTD unveiled a website outlining the Arkansas State Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.

"We are putting our plans into place. Over time you will see better facilities. It will not happen overnight but this is the a first step, this series of meetings," says Danny Strassle, AHTD spokesman.

The document will serve as a guideline as the state moves forward with projects. They say, however, a result of this plan won't be specific projects or funding. This is all happening in a state that went from ranking dead last in the country in bike friendliness in 2012 to 37th this year.
