Whether offering back to school supplies for children of military families or assisting with things like rent or utilities, Operation Homefront is all about helping.
Carol Herrick of Operation Homefront said, “It's rewarding to be able to take care of those who have served and who have sacrificed for our freedoms.”
Founded shortly after the attacks of 9/11, the mission for the nonprofit is to support military service members transitioning back into civilian life.
They are accomplishing that through several programs including one preparing them for home ownership.
Herrick said, “We have already saved the folks that have been a part of that program $40 million dollars in mortgage fees.”
In less than 5 years, through Homes on the Homefront almost 350 military families have been giving a home mortgage-free.
After finding the right match between communities, homes and eligible military families, they go through the program to get ready to own the home.
And after completing the program... the accomplishment is capped off with a handing over of the keys ceremony where the families are deeded the home.
3 homes in Northwest Arkansas will be given away in just in a matter of months.
“You're giving them more than just a home, you're giving them a new start. To be able to give them a sense of foundation to lay some roots is just amazing,” explains Herrick.
