For nearly 2 years the Northwest Arkansas Mercy Family YMCA in Rogers has helped thousands of families. Jessica Piel with the YMCA said, "People of all ages come out and are together and do different activities to promote a healthy lifestyle." The nonprofit has everything from after school programs to an on site pre-school. There are also youth development programs and family wellness programs. "We are more than a gym. We are a cause and when we say that, it's because everyone belongs," said Johanna Rowe with the YMCA. Even if some families couldn't ordinarily afford such programs or access to a such a facility, the YMCA lends a hand to cover the costs. Rowe said, "What's great about the YMCA is that we do not turn anyone around due to the inability to pay." In turn the nonprofit is helping to build friendships and a stronger community regardless of a persons background. Piel said, "You see these relationships develop and blossom where perhaps they wouldn't have in a regular social environment." "It's very nice to see someone's life touched," explained Rowe.
