Walker, Texas citizen? Chuck Norris named honorary Texan

TV star and master roundhouse kicker honored

There’s a new Texan in town -- kind of.

The Texas Senate named actor Chuck Norris an honorary Texan during a ceremony Tuesday at the state’s Capitol, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Oklahoma-born Norris, also a martial artist and U.S. Air Force veteran, is well known for his karate-kicking character in “Walker, Texas Ranger.”

The 77-year-old and his wife, Gena O’Kelley, were reportedly in Austin to promote their nonprofit, Kickstart Kids, a martial arts character development program.

Norris also received the gavel used to mark the passing of the resolution honoring him, and a flag formerly flown at the Alamo.

It wasn’t the first time Norris received such an honor. Texas Monthly reported that Norris was made an honorary U.S. Marine in 2007 and an honorary member of the Texas Rangers in 2010.
