In the 2013 rankings, the magazine reviewed 21,035 U.S. public high schools. 79 Arkansas schools made the cut. According to the Arkansas Department of Education, Arkansas high school students must earn at least 22 credits to graduate. Those credits cover several subjects including oral communication and fine arts. Students are assessed through Criterion-Referenced Tests at the end of Algebra I and Geometry, and in 11th grade, by a literacy exam.
Among the 79 Arkansas high schools making the 2013 list, one is a gold medal school, 33 are silver medal schools and 45 are bronze medal schools.
Ranking number one is Haas Hall Academy, a gold medal school, located in Fayetteville. Bentonville High School and Rogers Heritage High School came in at numbers two and three.
