Ask an Expert: Why should I consider replacing my air conditioner?

Why should I consider replacing my air conditioner?
It's time to ask an expert! Today's expert is Tim Paetz with Bud Anderson Heating and Cooling, and the question comes from Phyllis in Bentonville.

"I had a repair done on my air conditioner last month and the repairman said I should consider replacing it.. It still runs good and keeps my house cool so why should i consider replacing it?"

"Some signs that you should consider replacing your unit are if your system is ten or more years old, if your equipment needs frequent repairs, or if your energy bills are going up. Today's best A.C. units use 30 to 50 percent less energy to produce the same amount of cooling as A.C. units made in the mid 1970's. Even if your A.C. unit is only ten years old, you may save 20 to 40 percent of your cooling energy cost by replacing it with a newer more efficient model. If you have preventive maintenance done regularly on your system it will extend the life of the unit and give you more efficient operation. A neglected unit has a shorter life span and drives your utility bills up," Tim Paetz said.
