Zachary Roddy was killed while driving back from Tulsa late Friday night. The assistant band director started teaching at Bentonville schools just a few months ago. Principals from the schools called parents to share the news.
Grief counselors were also on hand today to help students cope.
"Young people may not have know him personally, but it may stir grief of other instances where they've been directly related. So, we talked about that and we reminded each other to look at the child and if that child seems distraught, then take the time to help them," said Marsha Matayo, a counselor at Washington Junior High.
Roddy spent 3 years teaching at music arts school in Tulsa.
