BELLA VISTA, AR-- In December of 2007, Boni Vrieze was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. It came as a shock considering the only symptom she had was chronic back pain.
"All of us think pancreatic cancer... six weeks maybe, but here I am five years later."
Then, Boni's doctor relayed some good news -- the Cancerous tumor was encased in calcium, meaning the disease didn't spread.
"They were able to take the tumor out of the tail of my pancreas."
However, Boni said calling herself a survivor hasn't been easy.
"Up until now it's been hard to say it because I don't want people who have lost someone to pancreatic cancer to ever ask me... but why you?"
Boni said her faith and friends at the Livestrong Foundation program helped make her stronger.
"I was one of the pancreatic cancer survivors that was chosen to be in this program and you can make yourself healthier and better and even lift your emotions by this physical activity."
Moving forward, Boni is taking advantage of time. She hopes her story will help other survivors and their families.
"The journey showed me that I am strong enough to deal with this sort of thing but I'm even stronger now that I can take my experience and share it with a broader audience."
