5 Tips for Kids Heading Back to Class #NWABackToSchool

FAYETTEVILLE, AR -- As children head back to class, Fayetteville Police have a few tips to share with kids to keep them safe.
FAYETTEVILLE, AR -- Many schools resume classes Monday, and the Fayetteville Police Department is urging drivers to use extra caution and care while driving. Chief Tabor is asking citizens to plan their routes around school zones carefully and to adjust their driving times to compensate for the additional traffic. There are additional safety considerations for drivers during the school year. Many children will be waiting at bus stops, walking, riding bicycles, and riding in cars to and from school. Chief Tabor offers the following suggestions to children:

  • Pay special attention to all traffic signals and crossing guards.
  • Never cross the street against a red light, even if you don't see any traffic coming.
  • Wear reflective clothing and bright colors so drivers can see you easier.
  • Plan a safe walking route to school or the bus stop.
  • Arrive early for buses. Stay out of the street, and wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching the street.
