We've shared stories every day since of the recovery efforts, and of the pain of loss of life. On Mother's Day, for some, that pain may be felt more than ever.
This is the story of survival, about a stray dog who gave birth to puppies in Vilonia as the town was being decimated by that tornado.
They survived under one of the few homes that remain standing in the area. Sadly, two puppies didn't make it. But mom and three surviving pups rode out the storm tucked in some insulation.
"I think the puppies were born either during the tornado or right before it," said Chloe Charlton, a 26-year-old veterinary student volunteering her help in the storm's aftermath. When she first got the survivors, the prognosis wasn't good.
"She just started to crash," Charlton said of the mom. "One of the puppies, I had notice had a bad infection on his back from a cut."
But over a long night, Charlton nursed mom and her puppies back to health. Sunday, we went to see them at their new home.
Mom and all three puppies were adopted by a family in Mount Vernon. They live on a farm with plenty of space to run around and other dogs to play with.
On this Mother's Day the four legged family celebrated together, happy and healthy.
