Amazeum Makes Big Progress

Thursday, the much-anticipated Amazeum teamed up with the Bentonville Public Library and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science to provide hands-on learning stations for kids.
UPDATE -- Years in the making and more than $20 million in donations, the Amazeum in Bentonville is starting to take shape.

Since the groundbreaking ceremony in April, construction has come a long way. As of  Wednesday, 90% of the facility's structural steel was already set up and the final pour of the concrete slab is just a day or two away.

BENTONVILLE, AR - Families in Bentonville got a preview Thursday afternoon at what the new Amazeum Museum is all about. The Amazeum teamed up with the Bentonville Public Library and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science to provide hands-on learning stations for kids. There were several stations that focused on building and engineering, offering kids a select amount of materials to create bridges and sculptures. Other work stations offered kids the opportunity to discover through sewing, bubbles, clouds, and a goofy goggle obstacle course.

"We brought out activity stations that celebrate science, that celebrate tinkering and making," said Mindy Porter, Amazeum Education Coordinator. "This is what we thrive on. Seeing children's faces come alive, being focused in on one activity and just being curious about it and really diving in and exploring. And then the parents get interested and get involved."

"What is really cool about the Amazeum is that they really focus on learning in a multi-sensory activity way," said Hadi Dudley, Bentonville Public Library Director. "Kids are having fun while they learn at the same time."

More than 300 people took advantage of the preview day, which included a mobile planetarium and a "Fire & Ice" Science Demonstration.

The Amazeum will sit near Crystal Bridges and is expected to open late 2015.
