Benton County Funding Fight Finished.... for Now

BENTON COUNTY, AR-- The Benton county battle over rural ambulance service is over, for now.
BENTON COUNTY, AR-- The Benton county battle over rural ambulance service is over, for now. Just this week, the finance committee approved using money from the county's reserve fund to pay for the remaining rural services through the end of the year. Back in February, voters shot down an $85.00 yearly household fee to reimburse cities making the emergency runs. Since then, the finance committee found the funds to cover the balance for the rest of this year. $236,000 from the county's budget was already approved to help pay for the service this year. $450,000 was taken from the Benton County Road Department's paving budget. The remaining balance of more than $250,000 will now keep services running through the end of 2014. Now, the quorum court must approve the vote.
