Businesses off Don Tyson Parkway: Interchange Helps Sunday Traffic

With the state's largest church and a minor league ballpark off Don Tyson Parkway, Sundays can be hectic in the area.
SPRINGDALE -- Cross Church sits between Sunset Ave. and Don Tyson Parkway in Springdale. Before the new Don Tyson Parkway interchange opened, there was a lot of congestion on Sunday mornings.

"It has been very difficult in the past and something our city's been working on for a long time," said Andy Wilson, executive leader of ministry and operations for the church.

Sunday was the first time church-goers were able to use the new exit. Church officials say it makes the drive easier for their congregation.

"We have a tremendous amount of members and attenders that live west of 540 and 49 now and the Tontitown area," Wilson said.

Sunday nights aren't much easier, with Northwest Arkansas Naturals baseball games at Arvest Ballpark.

"We have 25 games now that folks can use both the Sunset exit and the new exit," said Justin Cole, Naturals general manager.

Naturals baseball management was on hand for the ribbon cutting last Monday. They say fans are happy to see a better traffic flow on game day.

"There's been a lot of positive comments. Fans say they're looking forward to using it and looking forward to coming to the ballpark," Cole said.

Overall, both businesses say the driver is now smoother for Springdale drivers.

"For years, our city has needed this infrastructure," said Wilson. "It'll help us in our growth and it'll help us on Sundays."
