The event, sponsored by Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, discussed several issues, such as child poverty and hunger. Nearly 25,000 kids in Northwest Arkansas are living in poverty and 1 in 3 kids statewide, according to the 2014 Kids Count study from the Annie E. Casey Foundation. It's an issue advocates are planning to tackle.
"We want to bring together a group of people in the community who care about children and want children to have more opportunities and we want to show them how we can work on those goals through public policy," said Laura Kellams, Northwest Arkansas director of the group.
The event was held at First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville and featured round table discussion on various topics.
