Consumer Minute: Saving for College, Wedding Costs & Best Chicken Chain

It's time for the Consumer Minute!
According to Sallie Mae, only 29% of American families use 529 college savings plans.Financial advisors point out these three things you should know about 529:
1) Your gains are tax free
2) You can also invest in any state's 529 plan, but you might get a tax break on state income taxes if you use your home state's plan.
3) Don't withdraw money until you have bills in hand - make a check out in the student's name and make sure that student pays the bills.

The price of getting hitched is getting higher. According to the website The Knot the average cost of a wedding in the US is almost $30,000 and that's not including the honeymoon. The Knot surveyed 13,000 brides and grooms and factored in everything from tuxedo rentals, gown prices and location fees. The most expensive place to get married is Manhattan, where the average wedding costs more than $86,000.

In the battle for best chicken chain, Chick-Fil-A is once again on top. The Atlanta-based company held on to its top ranking because its restaurants are busier, even though KFC has more locations. According to food industry researcher Technomic, in 2013, Chick-Fil-A had more than $5 billion dollars in sales from more than 1,700 locations.
