“We are very concerned,” said Michael John. “There’s two small kids here this is not a good part of society that she is living in and these children don't need to be exposed to that."
John contacted WTAJ News after seeing surveillance video of his daughter involved in a Wal-Mart theft in Richland Township June 18th, 2014. Rachel John and her boyfriend Jeremiah Irwin are accused of stealing a license plate from a car in Ebensburg, then drove to the Wal-Mart in Richland Township where they tried stealing $2,400.00 worth of items. When a guard tried to stop her, Irwin attacked him. The two took off but surveillance video caught something else, a small child in the backseat of their car. John said most likely there were two kids in the car, his grandson’s 4-year old Ian and 2-year old Alex.
“These kids are not safe,” said John.
John last spoke to his daughter about a week ago after Irwin was arrested. He said family tried convincing her to get help and turn herself in. He believes she is in Florida with the two boys.
"There is a problem- these kids are not safe, my daughter is not safe,” said John. “She is probably going to go to jail and that's unfortunately the safest place for her to be."
Richland Township Police said as the investigation is continuing they are connecting the couple to more crimes in Blair, Cambria, Somerset, Allegheny and Washington Counties.
“We never imagined it being a crime spree that crossed several different countries,” said Mike Burgan, Richland Township Police Chief. ‘There could be more.”
Irwin is in Allegheny County Jail on other unrelated charges and is expected to be brought back to Cambria County for a hearing next week.
Anyone with information on John’s whereabouts is asked to call 1-800-281-1680.
