Doing Good - The Pack Shack

Northwest Arkansas - The Pack Shack is a local nonprofit helping to fight hunger in Northwest Arkansas.

Northwest Arkansas - You could call it an out of the box idea that is helping plenty in and around Northwest Arkansas.

Bret Raymond, co-founder of the Pack Shack said, "Wherever the party takse a place is where the help goes."

They're called Feed the Funnel parties and are complete with gloves, hairnets, funnel, food and fun.

Raymond explains, "We get people together and throw some crazy fun parties and pack healthy meals and send them to local hunger relief organizations for distribution.'

Dozens of volunteers take part funneling the 4 main ingredients of rice, dehydrated soy protein and dehydrated vegetables, along with a mineral and vitamin mixture.

In turn, the packed food is helping fight hunger in our neighborhoods.

"For us, if we see a need and there's a way to respond to it, then that's what we want to do," said Jarod Ring, co-founder of the Pack Shack.

Raymond said, "What's cool is it's people in the community packing meals for the community."

Although though Pack Shack has only been around for less than a year, their impact has been pretty big.

They've helped pack well over 250,000 meals and are on the way to reach a goal of 1.5 million by the end of the year.

While the ultimate hopes is to one day end hunger in our community, for now this nonprofit is doing all it can to raise awareness and make a difference.

Ring said, "A lot of people would think in a place like Northwest Arkansas it's not present, but it is."

"Lets just be neighborly.. Know there is a solution in helping people around us," said Raymond.
