SEBASTIAN COUNTY, AR-- Homeless dogs in the area are getting a new 'leash' on life.

Thursday afternoon, 34 dogs from the Sebastian County Humane society began their journeys to new homes.

They were loaded up to a shelter in Minnesota.

It' s part of the Petsmart Charities Rescue Waggin' program, giving second chances to pups overcrowding local shelters.

The Humane Society says because northern states have such a low domestic animal population these dogs will be adopted quickly.
259 dogs are currently at the Humane Society waiting for a home.

And on Monday, Washington county will send its first adult dogs to new homes as part of the Rescue Waggin' effort.

It'll happen from 1:00 p.m.- 2:30 p.m. at the Washington County Animal Shelter.
