A Fayetteville man is dead after flipping his kayak in a river in Colorado Friday afternoon.

It happened in the Pine Creek Rapid section of the Arkansas River around 3 P.M.

According to the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office, 40-year-old Johnathan Kennedy was wearing a personal floatation device and wearing a helmet when the accident happened.

Several boaters in the area tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful.

Once EMS arrived, they performed CPR.

Kennedy was pronounced dead at the scene.

He is survived by his wife and two young sons.

Executive Director of The Community Clinic, Kathy Grisham sent KNWA this statement about Kennedy, "Jonathan Kennedy was the Systems Analyst for Community Clinic.  He was brilliant, enthusiastic, and deeply dedicated to the Clinic’s  mission to provide health care to all in NW Arkansas.  He ran the statistics  for the organization and delighted in our growth and how many people we helped.  Coming to the Clinic in 2006, Jonathan set up our medical software and had oversight for  the technical side of the our growth.  Music, outdoor recreation, and his family were his great loves. He will be deeply missed in this community."
