FAYETTEVILLE - Fayetteville High School caught a student with a firearm clip on campus. It happened Tuesday, February 18. According to school district public information officer Alan Wilbourn, the student was showing the clip to a classmate, who alerted a faculty member. Wilbourn say the school sent a text and email alert to parents around 4:15 p.m., but he stresses the student did not have an actual firearm and no kids were ever in any danger. Wilbourn says the parental alert was sent to calm fears and keep the rumor mill at bay.
The school will now start the discplinary process with the student involved. According to Sgt. Craig Stout with the Fayetteville Police Department, the student will likely not face any criminal charges.
