Indian Festival of Colors Celebrates Unity in NWA

ROGERS, AR -- An annual celebration of Holi kicked off in Northwest Arkansas.
ROGERS, AR -- An annual celebration of Holi kicked off in Northwest Arkansas.

It is also called the Indian Festival of Colors. The Indian Cultural Association of Northwest Arkansas (ICANWA) gathered in downtown Rogers on Saturday to increase awareness of Indian culture in our area. Holi is the festival of colors, marking the beginning of spring and is celebrated by people throwing colored powder on each other.

The tradition also celebrates unity among people of all ages, genders, races and cultures. According to folks attending the festival, when covered with colored powder, we all look the same and can focus more on what we have in common than on our differences.

Watch the VIDEO to see how Photojournalist Erin Gilleece captured the celebration.
