In the hearing Friday morning defense lawyers asked to shield the suspect from execution on the grounds the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment, according to the county prosecutor's office.
Prosecutor Van Stone, these motions are the standard filed in every case in which the State seeks the death penalty.
The judge scheduled Holly's trial date for July 29. Holly is being held in the Benton County Jail without bond on charges of capital murder, kidnapping, rape and burglary for the kidnapping, rape and murder of six-year-old Jersey Bridgeman.
On November 20th, 2012 Bridgeman was reported missing by her mother. Soon after, her body was found in a vacant house doors away from her own home. Six days later and after an investigation that included the FBI, Zachary Holly, who was an acquaintance of the family, was arrested.
