KNWA We Salute: February 2014

Every Monday and Friday, KNWA salutes area service men and women.
We salute SPC Seth Ryan Koonce!

Seth is from Cedarville and was nominated by his local family. He joined the Army straight after high school graduation in 2007 and was deployed in January of 2008. While home from deployment in May, Seth died very suddenly following a medical incident.

"He only served for a short time," his family writes, "but it matters. Seth is missed by a lot of people.

We salute Captain Sean Kreps!

Captain Kreps was nominated by his wife and is a native of Russellville.  Captain Kreps joined the Air Force in March 1993 and has served almost 21 years.  He is a Logistics Readiness Officer currently assigned to Air Force ROTC Detachment 030, at the University of Arkansas as the Operations Flight Commander/Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies.

His wife says he was named the Air Force ROTC Instructor of the Year for 2013 and has been stationed in Texas, Florida, Colorado, Turkey, Illinois and Arkansas. He was also deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Captain Kreps has three kids. "We are all extremely proud and grateful of his service," says Rachel.
We salute Christopher "Blake" Ruckle!

Petty Officer 3rd Class Ruckle was nominated by his family in Northwest Arkansas. He is in Norfolk, VA serving the last 4 months of a 5-year Navy enlistment.

"He missed our precious grand-daughter's first and second birthday due to 8 & 9 month deployments on the USS Enterprise! We look forward to his return home in May."

Ruckle hopes to join one of our local police forces when he returns.


Today we salute Gary Winters!

Gary was nominated by his family in Northwest Arkansas. He served as a Single Channel Radio Operator/Military Policeman for the US Army, performing various law enforcement, security, and battle field circulation duties around the world.

Gary served from 1987-1990 in Darmstadt, Germany; 1990-1993 Sierra Army Depot in Herlong, CA and 1993-1999 in Augsburg and Vilseck, Germany

We salute Wesley and Christopher Alden!

James Alden nominated his 19-year-old twin sons. Wesley is a Corpsman in the Navy stationed in Pensacola Florida and Christopher is a Lance Corporal in the Marines stationed in Okinawa Japan.

"We are so proud of them and all who serve and have served in the military," the proud dad wrote.


We Salute Andy Matushek!

Nominated by his daughter Liz, Matushek served 30 years in the U.S. Navy mainly stationed in San Diego. He was enlisted from 1969-1999. He currently lives in Springdale and is an electrician by trade.

He's got 5 kids, 14 grand kids, and has been married 42 years!

"Love him and extremely proud that he served our country!" Liz wrote to us.



Today we salute Gregory Weeks from Springdale!

This picture was taken around April 1968 at the United States Air Force basic training center in Amarillo, Texas. Weeks says he had just graduated high school in Massachusetts in June 1967 and enlisted in July 1967. Weeks was in the military from December 1967 to December 1971.

"If I had the chance, I would do it all over again," Weeks says. "I would like to thank all the men and women past and present for their service to this great country."

Ms. Moore was born in Joplin, Missouri but, considers Fayetteville her home.
She received her nursing training in Oklahoma City from St. Anthony’s school of nursing. Ms. Moore is very active, and enjoys crafting, painting, gardening and caring for the aviaries in the Arkansas Veterans Home at Fayetteville.
