Lives of Former UA Students Celebrated, Special Event Benefits Cause

FAYETTEVILLE -- Helping those with Down Syndrome was a cause close to Rachel Swetnam's heart.

FAYETTEVILLE -- A special event held in Fayetteville on Sunday celebrated the lives of two former University of Arkansas students, and it also helped a great cause.

Rachel Swetnam and Trey Varner were killed last summer after a boat accident in an Oklahoma lake.

One cause close to Rachel Swetnam's heart was working closely with those dealing with Down Syndrome.

An event held on Old Main lawn benefitted that cause with a fitness obstacle course

'The Swetnam Challenge', hosted by Clubhaus Fitness, brought folks out where games and physical activities were set up.

Rachel Swetnam and Trey Varner were both Clubhaus members.

"They were actually planning on starting group sessions the Monday after that weekend. It was pretty devastating, I talked with the family a lot, and I decided to do an event to celebrate their lives in the Greek community," Bryce Anderson, organizer of the event says.

The event proceeds will go toward Down Syndrome Connection of NWA.
