Police say Thursday evening, Arthur Hevel beat his roommate's dog with a baseball bat after the two got into an argument.
A witness who called in the abuse said she was with her three small children when it happened, Greenwood Police Chief William Dawson said.
"She stated that she tried to get the subject to stop and she was cursed several times by the individual and had to even offer to take the dog. But he cursed her and eventually threw the dog over the fence at the witnesses that were there."
Officials say the dog was so severely beaten it had to be put to down. Hevel was arrested and booked into the Sebastian County Detention Center.
