In a statement, the organization confirmed Ali M. Matar, Jr. worked for them from August 16, 2013-October 16, 2013 but noted "the allegations [against Matar] have nothing to do whatsoever with the programs or activities of the Boys & Girls Club."
On Wednesday Bentonville Police arrested Matar, 21, of Lowell, on a felony rape charge after an investigation into a report that he sexually assaulted a girl while on RE Baker Elementary school premises. District officials said Matar was working for the district's after school Adventure Club Program.
"The safety and well-being of the children we serve is the number one priority," Boys and Girls Club organizers said in the statement, "Our organization is committed to the highest standards of ethical behavior and integrity, and does not tolerate inappropriate or illegal activity on the part of any Club staff, volunteer or youth member."
They also said Matar and all employees and volunteers must undergo a thorough criminal background check.
