DORCHESTER, Mass. (WHDH) - Jim Heffernan and his wife were on their way to the hospital when their son decided he didn’t want to wait.

According to WHDH, Heffernan pulled into into a Dorchester Shell gas station and proceeded to delivered the newest member of his family.

“I had no time to panic," Heffernan told a reporter. "His neck was a little bit twisted so I went over and lined it up and he popped right out,” he said.

An ambulance showed up just a few minutes later, checked out baby and mom and even let dad cut the still attached umbilical cord before taking them to the hospital.

The new father told WHDH his son’s name might be Peter, but he’ll be nicknamed Shell.  Heffernan, who lives and works in Boston, graduated from Fayetteville High School in 2000.
