Marriage Licenses to Same-Sex Couples Halted

AROUND ARKANSAS -- Washington and Pulaski Counties have suspended issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in Arkansas.
AROUND ARKANSAS -- Washington and Pulaski Counties have suspended issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in Arkansas.
The two counties were the only in the entire state continuing to hand out licenses to gay couples.
Both counties decided Wednesday to suspend the process, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning
Washington County Clerk, Becky Lewallen released the following statement to KNWA shortly after the decision:
"The Washington County Clerk's Office has suspended issuing same-sex marriage licenses pending clarification. I will be in contact with the County Clerks Association, Washington County Attorney, as well as other county clerks to see how they will proceed."
