MABELVALE, AR-- A mourning mother in central Arkansas has a message for parents; protecting your children online could be the difference between life and death. Her 13-year-old daughter took her own life on Sunday. But through the tragedy her parents are hoping to help others. "I hugged and kissed her and said I love you dunky, goodnight." Jennifer Buckner remembers nearly every word in her last conversation with her daughter, Corrinn. "See you tomorrow, she hugged my neck as tight as she could and said I love you mommy." The next day, the artistic teen took her own life at home. "The pain, there is no words to put it in," says Buckner. Driven by her grief, Corrin's mother is hoping to help other families avoid the pain and the problems she feels pushed her daughter to the edge. "They're kids and they don't know the danger of the Internet." Now, she is urging parents to keep a more watchful eye on kids online. "They're getting on dating sites, on social media sites and they are meeting these people.." says Buckner. They would build her up, try to get to meet her... we were too strict to let her out and they would tear her down cut her so deep... she just wanted to be loved." Buckner says the extra attention from the right people, especially parents, can save a life. "It's so important, 'cause in a moment it can take your angel, it can take mine." On top of dealing with their daughter's death, the family is having to pay the costs to put their daughter to rest. The Buckners started the Corinn Buckner Memorial Fund at Regions Bank to help other families who might find themselves in the same situation. Starting February 1st, the Bentonville Public Library is raising awareness about teen dating safety through a local workshop. You can learn more about it by clicking here.
