Nationwide Recall of Tattoo Ink

UNITED STATES-- There is a voluntary recall of tattoo ink, needles and kits due to a microbial contamination.
UNITED STATES-- The California company, White & Blue Lion Inc., is recalling inks, needles and kits due to a harmful bacterial contamination. The contaminated products could cause a potentially deadly bloodstream infection.

The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) is unaware of any tattoo shops in Arkansas that use this brand of products, but some unlicensed tattoo artists may have used it. ADH warns against going to an unlicensed artist or body art establishment, because they have not been tested or demonstrated knowledge about preventing blood-born diseases.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported at least one skin infection that has been linked to White & Blue Lion products, but are unaware of any other reports of infections caused by this brand.

The bacterial infection can occur when the bacteria is transferred into the bloodstream through a tattoo needle. The risk of infection is much higher for people with pre-existing heart conditions.
