WASHINGTON COUNTY, AR-- The Washington County Sheriff's Office is issuing a new warning about a phone scam happening right now.

So far, the sheriff's office says it has received two reports of people getting phone calls with the callers saying they're with the sheriff's office.

Trouble is, they're identifying themselves as legitimate officers on the force.

We're told the calls are coming from the number (479) 212-0410. The would-be victims are receiving calls from a person claiming to be 'Jay Cantrell,' with the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The targeted victims are then told to go to the Dollar General Store and get a money order or something in the amount of $1,100 to pay off a fine. 'Jay' also had the victim talk to 'Major Hoyt.'

The first complaint came from the Fayetteville area. While the dispatcher was talking to the first caller, another complaint came in from the Goshen area.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office reminds everyone, it does not collect money over the phone.

Bottom line, investigators say it's a scam.

If you've received a similar call the sheriff's office.
