FOX 24 via FOX 25 -- An Oklahoma City Police K-9 was killed in action Sunday night now the department says it's getting an outpouring of support from people around the country - including offers of cash donations.

Department says while it is grateful for all the messages, it cannot accept cash donations.

Sunday night, the K-9 was deployed to chase down 22-year-old Mark Salazar after a chase that ended near Goldsby on I-35. Kye's handler, Sgt. Ryan Stark, said Kye had caught up to Salazar and he was about to call the dog off when he released Salazar was stabbing the K-9.

Sgt. Stark pulled his weapon and shot and killed the suspect.

The Department says it has received more than 4 million hits on the department's Facebook page in response to Kye's death.

Since they can't accept donations, the department is asking that donations be made to smaller Oklahoma departments that can accept them, or to any K-9 search and rescue, service animal, or comfort dog organization of your choice.

The department is also asking anyone hoping to send flowers to send them to First Southern Baptist Church located at 6400 S. Sooner Road in OKC 73135.

Cards and other letters can still be sent to the police headquarters at 701 Colcord Dr., Oklahoma City, 73102.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 28th at the First Southern Baptist Church in Del City. The service begins at 11 a.m.
