Open Ceremony Excitement Takes Over Sochi

SOCHI -- “It was our decision. Right when the man with the envelope opened and it said 'Sochi' we decided to come here!”

Alexi Pilistin and his wife Elana are making good on the decision they made almost 7 years ago.  They made the 22 hour trip from Moscow to take in their first Olympic games.

“Wonderful emotions, new people here, new friends, good competition.”

For fellow Russians, the trip not allowed provided them an opportunity to see the games, but also a beautiful and warm part of their country.

Gregory Gorgy from Russia said, “Sochi is best city in Russia.  A lot of sun. In Moscow, very cold winter.”  Regardless of where they come from, they are taking great pride in having Russia be the world's focus in February.

“I'm very proud of people coming here. I'm proud of Russia.  I'm very proud of Sochi."  Elizabeth Alexandroda competes on Russia's Rhythmic Gymnastics team, but her greatest honor is off the mat. She was asked to participate in the Opening Ceremony as one of the dancers.

“Somebody told me it'd be very exciting to participate, so I agreed.”
