In this picture, tweeted by KOLR 10 reporter Laurie Patton, the line of Springfield Public Works trucks on Glenstone stretched as far as the eye could see as they made their way to Director of Springfield Public Works Phil Broyles memorial service.
Broyles passed away March 29th after he was diagnosed with cancer just three months ago. Broyles was 65-years-old.
“Our hearts are heavy at the City. It is unfair that Phil has been taken from us,” said City Manager Greg Burris in a press release.
One of Broyles major accomplishments were being named one of the Top 10 Public Works Professionals in the country in 2012.
Broyles oversaw the creation of the nation’s first diverging diamond intersection at Kansas Expressway and I-44, and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Missouri Bicycle & Pedestrian Federation.
