ROGERS, AR-- New jobs and new shops are coming to Northwest Arkansas and the new developments have been a long-time coming to a Pleasant Crossing project, plagued with delays for years.

City planner, Derrel Smith said, "A small strip center is being developed by Whisenhunt Investment."

Pleasant Crossing in Rogers will soon be home to some new businesses.

Smith said, "There is also a Cavender's store that is going before the planning commission. There is a "Whataburger" that is in the technical review process right now."

But Smith says this project is not totally new. While the construction site may be fresh, development along Pleasant Crossing started in the early 2000s. Smith says it came to a stop with the country's recession.

Smith said, "Walmart came in we had a couple stores come in and then the area kind of sat for a little while. Everything in Northwest Arkansas slowed."

Now hard hat areas are active again. With close access to I-49 and Pleasant Grove Road, Smith says it's a great location and now is the perfect time to pick up where crews left off.

Smith said, "It never came to a complete stop like other parts of the United States, but it's going now at a pace that I think we can keep up with."

While construction workers set up for a strip of new shops, Smith says the project is laying the ground work for future plans.

Smith said, "It's going to increase tax revenue, it will bring jobs and it will bring people to the area. all this development kind of spurs new development."

Construction crews started laying the footings for the new strip of stores and the project will be complete within the next six to nine months.
