FAYETTEVILLE -- Fayetteville police responded to an early morning car crash only to discover the driver was wanted in connection with an attack on a woman.

On Wednesday morning, a one-car-crash was reported near The Cliffs Apartment complex where a dark blue Jeep Grand Cherokee had lost control and hit a tree. The driver, Bradley Owren, was taken to Washington Regional with serious, non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the accident investigation turned into much more when they realized Owren, 36, was named as a suspect in a domestic disturbance Tuesday night. According to a report, Owren attacked his girlfriend, choking and punching her several times. When police arrived on scene, Owren had driven off, wrecking his car hours later.

Thursday morning, Owren was booked into Washington County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, domestic battery and criminal mischief.
