NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR - A Sherwood man is in jail after being arrested with a Samurai-like sword during a road rage incident.

Police say Dereck Johnson, 41, wielded the prohibited weapon at a two women in a car that stopped behind his vehicle on Camp Robinson Rd. on Wednesday afternoon.

The 42-year-old driver and her 63-year-old mother told officers they feared for their lives during the incident that happened around 3:30 near the Arrington Apartments not far from the intersection with Remount Road.

According to the police report, the woman driver said Johnson stopped his vehicle in front of hers, forcing her to stop. He then got out of his vehicle and walked to her vehicle with a folding knife, yelling at her to give him his money. He then went back to his vehicle and returned armed with a Samurai-type sword. At that point, the woman driver tried to get away and he deflated one of her front tires with the sword. Despite that, the woman drove off and sought refuge at a nearby convenience store.

Johnson was stopped by officers as he drove south away from the scene down Camp Robinson Road. Police say a search of the convicted felon's vehicle turned up the sword as well as some bullets. He is charged with aggravated assault and carrying certain prohibited weapons.

The police incident report notes that the victim and suspect are acquaintances.
