There are a few primary races flying under the radar this election season, one of those being the race for treasurer. As you may remember, former Democratic Treasurer Martha Shoffner resigned back in May of 2013 after she was arrested as part of a federal corruption investigation. She was convicted in March on federal extortion and bribery charges and is currently awaiting sentencing.
Suffice it to say, restoring trust back to the office is a tall task for the next treasurer, but State Representative Duncan Baird of Lowell (R-96), the current chairman of the Joint Budget Committee and former investment banker, says he's up for the challenge.

Baird is facing fellow Republican Dennis Milligan of Saline County in the Republican primary Tuesday. The winner will face Democrat Karen Garcia and Libertarian Chris Hayes.
