Four buildings were destroyed and nearly thirty others sustained severe damage. Roofs and siding were ripped off some while trees fell into other buildings.
"We are just very fortunate not to have and injuries because we had people out here working when it hit yesterday," Ivy Owens, Chaffee Crossing Executive Director said. "People were inside buildings that collapsed, so yeah, we are very lucky that nobody was injured."
Owens says the historic district had recently seen lots of growth and development. Now those who had put a lot of time and money into preserving it took a substantial hit as well.
Several people are being are being relocated until clean up is done, which is expected to take at least six to eight weeks.
