Senior Citizen Scam Prevention Sparks Discussion

FAYETTEVILLE -- One local group brought in a panel of experts to warn folks about fraud dangers seniors sometimes face.

FAYETTEVILLE -- Seniors in Northwest Arkansas spent Sunday getting in the know about scams targeting them.

It was the topic of discussion for a panel of experts at a Fayetteville church Sunday afternoon.

The League of Women Voters of Washington County hosted the event.

Speakers brought up issues like protecting people from becoming fraud victims and the laws that help prevent it.

Organizers say the purpose behind the panel is to simply inform the public.

"Fraud with senior citizens is a very timely topic," Mary Alice Serafini, league president says.

"It affects the elderly and possibly the folks that inherit the elderly's inheritance."

The League of Women Voters of Washington County holds programs like this as part of its voting service.
