Springdale Hopes New Walmart Brings More Businesses

With a new Walmart in Springdale, the city hopes to see new businesses in the Elm Springs Road area.
SPRINGDALE -- It's opening day for the new Walmart in Springdale.

The world's largest retailer is expected to make a big impact on the city's economy. The new store on Elm Springs Rd. brings more than 300 jobs to the area. It's a part of town that hasn't seen a lot of business in the past. The store's manager hopes Walmart can spark even more growth and development in the community.

"There's been a lot of housing and a lot of growth on this side of town and now that we're a part of it, we expect to see a lot of things come up around the store," said Sherry Curtis Swenson, store manager.

The store opened its doors early this morning with a grand opening ceremony and a ribbon cutting this morning. Store management tells us this is the first supercenter to open in Northwest Arkansas in nearly 10 years.
