Fox's hit show "Glee" is introducing five new singing students in its sixth and final season. At least five new students will be enrolling at McKinley High. Roderick, a shy underdog, a new football stud, spencer, Jane, the ambitions, go-getter type and a set of twins: one male and one female, who both join the cheer squad, named Mason and Madison. Meet the new crooning classmates when Fox's "Glee" returns to the TV lineup midseason.
#4: Author Sends Sweet Note
J.K. Rowling brings a little light to a dark time. The author sent a personalized handwritten note, written in the voice of Harry Potter character "Dumbledore," to shooting survivor Cassidy Stay. A gunman killed Cassidy's parents and siblings in Houston last month. At the memorial, the brave 15-year-old said "Dumbledore says happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."
#3: Apple Set To Unveil New Phone
Apple fans, rejoice! According to a report from a tech news site, Apple is set to unveil its Iphone 6 at an event on September 9th. The Iphone 6 is expected to be faster and sport a much larger screen. Apple will also likely provide more details on the forthcoming version of its mobile operating system, IOS 8. It is also widely expected to unveil a new smartwatch at the event.
#2: Pistorious Trial
The Oscar Pistorius trial is finally nearing an end. Closing arguments are scheduled to begin today in the case against the double amputee Olympic sprinter. He's on trial in South Africa for premeditated murder in the death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Prosecutors say Pistorius was in a heated argument with Steenkamp on February 14, 2013, and intentionally shot her through a closed bathroom door. Pistorious says he thought she was an intruder.
#1: Hurricane Iselle
Hurricane Iselle is taking aim on Hawaii and the window of time to prepare is dwindling. A Hurricane warning is in effect for the big island as Iselle is expected to pass nearby tonight. Along with the high winds and dangerous surf, meteorologists warn heavy rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and rock and mudslides. Governor Neil Abercrombie already signed an emergency proclamation in advance of Iselle and Hurricane Julio.
